Patios in Brixham

A beautiful patio can uplift any seating area

Installed professionally. Laid level, laid straight, on groundwork that will not sink or shift.

Patios built for Brixham gardens

A patio is only as good as what sits under it. We dig out properly, lay a compacted sub base and set the falls so water runs away from the house rather than towards it.

Small Brixham yards suit porcelain, because it stays clean and it does not go green the way some stone does in a shaded, damp spot. Laying it level on rock takes preparation rather than shortcuts.

Full preparation and drainage as standard, not an optional extra.

What you get

  • Porcelain, natural stone or block, depending on the look and the budget
  • Dug out and compacted in layers
  • Falls set away from the house so water goes where it should
  • Jointed, cleaned down and swept before we leave

Working in Brixham

The ground

Brixham is built on rock and it shows. Gardens on the slopes above the harbour are often shallow soil over stone, held by old walls that have been there longer than anyone can remember. Some of those walls need attention before anything new goes near them.

Getting to the garden

The streets above the harbour are narrow, steep and often stepped, and a good number of gardens have no vehicle access at all. Parking a van within reach of the job can be the first problem to solve. Where there is no way in, every barrow load of stone and every length of timber is carried by hand. We price that honestly and say so at the quote stage, because pretending otherwise helps nobody.

The houses

Fishermen's cottages with small walled yards, terraces stepping down towards the harbour, and newer housing up at Higher Brixham where gardens are more conventional and access is easier. Down in the old town, small and awkward is normal. A garden might be twenty feet square, walled on three sides and reached through the kitchen, and it can still be turned into somewhere genuinely good to sit.
